Our Native English Teachers
My name is Agatha Xaris Custodio Villa (a name I am most proud of) but around campus I’m known simply as Miss Agie. I’m 20-something years old and am currently in my third year as an English teacher in Heep Woh Primary School.
My hobbies are reading, watching TV and listening to music. My interests revolve around graphic design, history, psychology and music. Although I’m not very good at sports, I love playing volleyball and dancing.
I am a volunteer at a Christian youth group and am involved in advocating human rights especially for persecuted Christians around the world. On Sundays, I play the keyboard (sometimes the guitar or drums) at my church in Sheung Wan.
2. ‘Mr David’ Harmer
My name is ‘Mr. David’ Harmer. I come from England. I have been living in Hong Kong since 1996. Before becoming a teacher I worked as an engineer on the Tsing Ma Bridge. I have been teaching English now for 7 years and here at Heep Woh for the last 4 years. In my spare time I like to scuba dive with sharks or fly my paraglider at Shek O.
3. Jumping Joseph
My name is Jumping Joseph. I have enjoyed teaching in C.C.C. Heep Woh for five years now and find it to be very rewarding. Here I have been warmly welcomed and met so many new friends. Allow me to tell you a little bit about myself and what I do here.
I love Hong Kong and for several years I have lived and taught in the S.A.R. Prior to coming here, I spent time in Australia, Japan and in the U.K. where I was born.
Today, I am very fortunate to live in the New Territories. This gives my friends and I the opportunity to go hiking and swimming in many of Hong Kong’s beautiful country parks. I also love to read, and am a keen, football player. Presently, I am trying to learn Cantonese and brush up on my Japanese language skills.
In C.C.C. Heep Who my day is spent teaching children from five to twelve years old. This I do in the mornings and the afternoons. As much as possible, I try to utilize work already done by the children from the class lessons and the Primary Literacy Program.
From my own experience I understand that learning a new language can be difficult. Using a language is a social activity. It takes one to speak and another to listen. This of course comes naturally to children. Therefore I try to put every lesson in a context that the student can see himself/herself using in the school-playground or on the street.
By being exposed to and taking-part in everyday English , from ‘The playground’ to ‘At the Supermarket’. Children get the chance to use and practice what they see in the textbook. They are encouraged to use gestures and interjections to reinforce the language.
I look forward to meeting and chatting to all the children, as well as the mums and dads. Please make sure we chat the next time we see each other.
